We present to you the publication of the new volume of the Ágora R conference. Society for Sale: Corporate Violence and Collective Resistance gathers the contributions of the speakers who took part in the gathering held in Vigo from 20 to 23 March 2024.
At present, economic and political power is increasingly concentrated in few hands. Large corporations, especially technology and energy companies, wield influence comparable to or even greater than that of many states, backed by a favourable legal framework, the complicity of ruling elites, and media coverage that tends to normalise their abuses and excesses. This global dynamic has direct consequences on people’s lives and on the health of the planet, and demands that citizens become aware and take action.
The book we now present delves into the keys to corporate power and the possibilities of grassroots resistance. Through various perspectives, it explores, among other things, the repression of dissent, disinformation in international conflicts, and the need to recover sovereignty on all levels (digital, economic, political, communicative…). The work does not merely diagnose but also functions as a tool for those seeking to understand the workings of the system and build alternatives.
Society for Sale offers a journey through issues such as the alliance between capitalism and patriarchy, the financial control of the media, the business of war, and the fight for informational truth. All of this, from a critical and proactive perspective, with the intention of opening cracks through which social change can filter in.
This book is aimed at all those who do not resign themselves to injustice and who want to have tools to analyse and transform reality. Within it, they will find arguments, data and reflections that help them think and act.
