Today we want to dedicate this news space to the first of the books published by 13 Editora. This is the Handbook for Nonviolent Campaigns. Written hand in hand by more than thirty specialists in nonviolence from around the world (all members of the War Resisters’ International), the work’s main goal is the transmission of practical and appropriate information to develop nonviolent actions and campaigns in any kind of context and situation.
Without attempting to give a single definition of what non-violence is and implies, this manual undoubtedly constitutes a source of inspiration for those organizations, groups and individuals who are interested in using nonviolence in their activist work, since it offers both theoretical and conceptual information as well as a good number of stories and experiences taken from real cases and situations in which nonviolence was used, through the selection of nonviolent materials of different types, origins and times.
Thus, the Handbook for Nonviolent Campaigns is, above all, an open board of possibilities, options and proposals that each group can use, modify and complete according to their experience and goals. A text, at the same time, hopeful, loaded with good ideas, which demonstrates the power of nonviolent direct action to change things.
